La Joya Middle School

La Joya Middle School first opened its doors to students in the fall of 1994.  Currently, La Joya Middle School is home to about 1,000 7th and 8th grade students, with approximately 60 staff members. La Joya was named a California Distinguished School in 1996. We have embraced a space theme and have welcomed visitors from the National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and Rockwell. Those visitors include Capt. James A. Lovell, Jr., USN; Sally K. Ride; Cal Dooley; and Dr. Cheick M. Diarra.

The solar panels on campus are now complete. This is one of 12 schools in VUSD to receive solar panels, which are expected to save the District more than $500,000 a year in energy costs. These funds will then be available to support the schools’ other facilities needs. Security improvements are now complete
